Description
A Flamingo only lays one egg a year so every flamingo check is so special. But it isn’t pink when it is born. It’s actually a dull grey color. The familiar pink colour comes from their diet as they eat mainly algae, shrimp and plankton. All of these have what they call ‘carotenoid’ which is the same pigment which makes carrots orange. It’s this pigment or colouring that turns flamingos pink.
